Review of I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House (2016) by Jo K — 14 Apr 2017
Horrible. I will avoid any future Oz Perkins films after this one and The Blackcoat's Daughter. Both are snoozefests that critics gave passes for reasons completely unknown. This was a straightforward ghost story that was dragged out to a painful length with nothing to keep the viewer engaged.
The main character was disinteresting and, not to be petty, the oldest looking 28 year old character EVER. She was so mousy and easily frightened which made me wonder why she agreed to work with a terminally ill patient in an isolated historic home to begin with? The ending was a complete let down.
Viewers know the fate of the main character from the opening voice over. It was the job of the rest of the movie to make us care about how she got there. I never did.
