Review of I Am Omega (2007) by Private U — 05 Jan 2008
This movie is an odd one for the Asylum. Not in the sense that itâ??s a low budget rip-off of a big budget movie coming out (I Am Legend), cause as we all know, that's what Asylum does best, but in the sense that, apart from the horrible acting from a couple minor side characters, this movie is actually very well made. The other actors do a great job, including the main character, who played The Crow in the TV series The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, especially during the first 40 minutes when heâ??s the only human and he fights with himself, mentally, for his sanity and to stop from going crazy, being that he thinks heâ??s the last human left alive on a planet overrun with fast-moving mutant zombie creatures. The music, or lack-there-of in just the right scenes, fits great and is a dominate part of the movie, and the special effects look like they could be from any big budget Hollywood summer movie. After the first 40 minutes though, once a few other human characters are introduced, the movieâ??s slow-but-interesting pace quickly picks up for the remainder of the movie and is almost non-stop action and laughs.
There are a few downpoints though. Apart from the previously-mentioned bad acting from the side characters, there are some leaps in logic, such as the Internet still working despite the fact that thereâ??s no humans left to keep it running. There are a few small things like that, but they far from ruin the movie. Iâ??ll go out on a limb here and say that this is by far Asylumâ??s best movie yet, both in entertainment value and in the technical aspects of filmmaking.
