Review of I Am Love (2010) by Faruk O — 26 Oct 2010
Tough start having to follow who was who which whilst reading the subtitles wasn't the easiest thing in the world. After about 40 mins or so it really comes into its own as a sumptuously beautiful affair (pun intended).
Tilda Swinton is amazingly, almost freakishly, beautiful, and carries the role as if speaking Italian and, at some points, Russian was nothing but natural. I also liked seeing her naked.
I found there to be a somewhat odd leap in logic towards the end; the problem with sophisticated films, which this definitely counts as, is that when you're not sure why someone does something you don't know if it wasn't made clear or you just weren't doing enough mental legwork.
Still, a beautiful film. Really loved it.
