Review of Hysteria (2011) by John B — 27 Jun 2014
This movie does great at bringing to light a part of history that is lost on a great part of our society. Particularly for our culture and youth today I believe it helps illustrate the cultural and societal shifts that have occurred historically.
Personally the movie made me grateful that I was born after the 60's and it speaks to just how far women and society have come. I have no doubts that had I been born in to Victorian society that I could have ended up in an asylum due to the stubbornness of my opinions and irritability with unjustness and closed-mindedness.
The movie keeps everything lighthearted yet if you know anything about the state of mental health or culture of Victorian times there is a part of any woman that should have fear strike through them about having to have endured the "norm" or expectations of being female back then.
I am so grateful for the women and men who came before me that have contributed to the enlightenment of society and I hope we can continue to grow.
