Review of Hyde Park on Hudson (2012) by James L — 16 Dec 2012
Critics and the public seem to agree. This film isn't one of their favorites.
I slightly disagree. There isn't much action, no one dies, and it was a different time, but ...
The most powerful man in the world, who ironically was paralyzed, took some weekends off and rested at his Mother's home at Hastings on the Hudson, north of NYC.
His wife and marriage were different. The Big Event is that this weekend the stuttering King George, from the King's Speech, will be visiting to ask for America's help related to events in Europe.
We see all this from the eyes of Laura Linney, playing a distant FDR cousin, who is a special friend of the President.
Perhaps the most significant incident is what will the visiting Royal Couple make of the American meal Eleanor Roosevelt (FDR's wife) plans to serve.
Think of the movie as a slight dessert and not a main course, but delightful, none the less.
