Review of Hustle & Flow (2005) by Joshua N — 23 Dec 2010

This film portrays the life of people from the lowest socioeconomic level: pimps and hos. All people, regardless of their life situation, have the right to pursue the American dream. That's the main theme of this film when DJ Qualls character said, "Everyone has to have a chance to spit their verse.

" This was also seen in Taryn Manning's character, a ho, at the end when she wore a suit as she went to the radio station. Another, more subtle theme, was women supporting their man, when Howard says, "See, that's a bottom bitch," when the bottom bitch brings in a lava lamp to their mock studio room.

And again, when Anthony Anderson's character's wife brings over sandwiches to the ho house. Very well told story, very believable.
