Review of Hustle & Flow (2005) by Daryl R — 19 Mar 2010
Inspiring and brilliant delving into the unique Memphis underground sub-culture with incredible authentic dialogues, characters and story.
Shockingly original and engaging, the story of how difficult is to achieve your dreams, is building up a study on the whole sub-culture and the truth about real life and the widely proclaimed by the hip-hop generation thug-life .
The characters are complex with absolutely formidable performances. What Terrance Howard delivers is one of the most realistic pimp character performances ever. Instead of being the regular too-much-gangster person, he puts in Djay emotions, passion, rage, ambitions, and the American-dream. Howard puts all his heart in this role and this received its Oscar nods with nomination for Best Male Actor, which unfortunately did not go to him.
On top of all those positive things, the soundtrack is simply mesmerizing with the first hip-hop song to win ever an Oscar for Best Song in Movie. I guess even the critics realized that "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp"...
As some have said:" Hustle & Flow has a heart that beats as loudly as the bass line on one of DJay's tracks. ".
A Must see movie !
