Review of Husk (2011) by Joe A — 29 Mar 2011
For starters, what horror flick kills off the only girl, and a hot one at that, in the first 10 minutes. One that thinks creepy scarecrow imagery is all one needs to make a good horror flick. Husk's story of a group of young people stranded by accident at a haunted farmhouse is not only nothing new story wise but, uses the typical horror cliches and not well.
As I've said many times, a successful horror flick needs characters we like and care about so we become concerned with their well being and react with emotion when they are hurt or in danger. Husk is another flick which drags out a cardboard array of generic twenty somethings and expects us to care when it's scarecrow masked spectres are on the attack.
We don't and the scarecrow masked spectres are equally without personality so they carry no threat or dread. At least there is only 80 minutes of Husk to sit through but, it seems like a lot longer.
Only the cinematographer wins in this one.
