Review of Hush (2016) by Dan H — 10 Apr 2016
Mike Flannigan's third outing does not disappoint (Though it's not quite as good as Oculus was). Kate Siegel (Flannigan's wife) is gorgeous and completely believable as the mute, deaf writer who finds herself trapped in her house as a crazed killer (John Gallagher Jr, who is fantastic) commences a game of cat and mouse.
This is a plot we've seen a million times (Even if the deaf and mute protagonist does add a somewhat new element), luckily Flannigan manages to have a TON of fun within these familiar confines. He has some cool ideas (like he usually does), one of which is the decision to make this film pretty silent for the most part.
There isn't a whole lot of talking. The parts that are intense are level 11 intense, and I'll happily admit that I had a blast with this flick. Mike Flannigan co-wrote with Kate Siegel, and he edited it by himself.
You can count me as a fan of Flannigan's, and I eagerly await to see what he puts out next.
