Review of Hush (2016) by Andy R — 07 May 2016
This is one of the worst movies, if you actually want to call it that, I must now admit to watching. The premise sounded wonderful, but trying to think of any other redeeming feature beyond that is impossible.
These must be the most unintelligent characters ever written, the pace was awkwardly slow for the given circumstances, and it was absolutely NOT suspenseful. If you enjoy having literally no information about any characters other than the Maddie, like personal histories or motives, and if you love watching incompetent characters arbitrarily deciding when to suffer from their wounds, this is a fine disaster.
The last 5 minutes didn't disappoint however, in a way similar to how powerful and interesting the ending of silence of the lambs was, the ending of Hush was so powerfully awful. The closing cut showing that her cat is fine, as the animals are always fine in movies, is a boring cliche that actually brings the movie a little bit higher in what amounts to a deep pit of shit.
I mean no disrespect to the writers, but the only thing I have to take away from this hapless montage of footage is a feeling of emptiness knowing I've been permanently robbed of almost an hour and a half of time I could have spent watching vines of people falling on treadmills.
The greatest mystery and most grievous offense however is how this movie has 100% by 11 critics.
