Review of Husbands and Wives (1992) by Karsten J — 07 Dec 2007
Woody Allen's unflinching look at marriage and desire. A film about how we constanty search for blazing happiness and fulfilment when really, all we can expect are flashes of that among contentment.
Judy Davis is a terrific force of nature in this film, all jangled nerves and jilted anger. Manages, as with the best of Allen's films, to straddle the line between laugh-out-oud comedy and very serious drama.
Not a single bad perfromance or wasted moment in this gem.
