Review of Husbands and Wives (1992) by Francisco F — 15 Mar 2009
One of Woody Allen's darker undertakings. The realism created by the camera work and the impeccable actors makes for a unique drama that sits a little lower in your stomach. But this documentary technique works just as well in the film's singular moment of candlelight romance.
Sidney Pollack and Judy Davis deliver their best work, and Juliette Lewis is a refreshing, evervescent life force in the world of Woody Allen. A strong film with an excitingly original twist of genius.
