Review of Husbands and Wives (1992) by Matt S — 13 Dec 2009
"You use sex to express every emotion except love.".
This is one of those films that was almost buried under by press scrutiny and the gossip mill upon its release. TriStar pushed the movie out into a very wide release because Allen and Farrow were in the process of splitting up.
The movie holds up as one of Allen's best, although the handheld nature of the cinematography is at once what makes it feel so real AND simultaneously makes me seasick at times. Of course, with all the shaky relationships on display in the film, it's perfectly suited to the subject matter.
