Review of Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) by Peter F — 30 Nov 2017
New Zealand director Taika Waititi shows where his talents can go with a higher-budgeted picture with Hunt for the Wilderpeople, but he doesn't sacrifice an iota of his charm. Decidedly off-beat, at times Hunt for the Wilderpeople can act as a graceful parody of one of your favorite childhood adventure films (i.
E. Homeward Bound) even if it can encroach on fairly dark material for a children's film. Character death and bloody hunting are featured in the film, but Hunt for the WIlderpeople remains convivial throughout, yet also majestic thanks to the irresistible landscape, and storybook elements.
It's no Walkabout, but it's a lush and enjoyable movie that should appeal to all ages, and makes one eager to see what Taika Waititi does with the next Thor movie..
