Review of Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) by Jason W — 31 May 2018
A sweet, genuine, funny movie about a misfit rebel and his unwilling foster carer. Its hard to imagine Sam Neill in any other role other than Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, however he gives out a solid performance, striking up a unique partnership with Julian Dennison and the pair are a joy to watch together on screen.
The plot is well thought out, and moves at a fast enough pace to deliver an authentic sense of adventure. A rather different coming of age film, this film tackles some heavy issues in its own light hearted manner.
There's some impressive cinematography as well, making best use of New Zealand's stunning yet demanding landscape, however, that's not what the films about. It's about family, love and loss - themes aptly explored through a heartwarming adventure through New Zealand's wilderness.
