Review of Humpday (2009) by Boaz-David M — 18 Dec 2009
Not laugh out loud hilarious but consistently very funny. The chemistry between each character felt so real. Every character related so well to each other. The directing and dialogue were heavily improved, and I don't think I have ever seen a better example of improv dialogue.
I have seen Deplass before in the TV show the League, which is hilarious, and he does a fantastic job, along with everyone else. The film examined the male ego and ironies within it. It was a real yet hilarious and thought provoking examination.
This is a great example of how a simple story with strong roots can carry an entire film. Shelton won an award for aspiring indie directors, and she deserved it with this well written/directed piece. The ending was a bit of an anti climax, but it couldn't have ended any other way.
There was soo much awkward laughs wrung out of the premise, and where it could have tried to get away with offensive humor, it succeeded with smart. Very good.
