Review of Hulk (2003) by Mikep. — 30 Jan 2009
This movie is much better than what most of the critics and moviegoers say about it. First and foremost, it's not a popcorn flick. Most of the people who went to see this movie were probably expecting a mindless, fun superhero movie where a big, green monster smashes everything.
Instead they got an intelligent, character-driven film about the sins of the father, psychological trauma, and profound tragedy. This was the first superhero movie that attempted to be meaningful and thoughtful.
It failed because it targeted the wrong audience and its message flew right over the heads of the average viewer. Perhaps, it would have succeeded if it were able to better balance art with entertainment like what Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins did after it.
