Review of Hugo (2011) by Richard D — 28 Mar 2013

I didn't enjoy this film quite so much on repeat viewing. Some folks had complained that the film felt strangely hollow, which is not something I experienced when I saw this in the theater. Something about seeing it at home, or not seeing it in 3D or simply seeing it for a second time lead me to sympathize with this complaint a lot more.

I still think it's a smashing good family film, and obviously a very personal project for Scorsese, but it's not prime Scorsese.
