Review of Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel (2009) by Eric R — 31 Jul 2010
This film will enlighten the ignorant who think Hefner as merely an exploitative pornographer to show him as a leader of the civil rights movement and pioneer in progressive morays. Without Hefner's push for integration and support of black artists like Sammy Davis Jr.
and Dick Gregory, along with his refusal to abide by the blacklist by giving a platform to writers like Dalton Trumbo, we might still be living in dark ages of the 1950s. A fluff piece for sure but still a film that highlights one of the preeminent leaders of the cultural revolution of the 20th century.
