Review of Howl (2010) by Ryan M — 08 Feb 2011
Never read the damn poem, never wanted to. I hated poetry as a young man, to the point where I one time walked out in the middle of a poetry recital in a bar(they came after I was already there, half in the bag), purposely making sure the participants saw me leave so they would know my contempt for their mealy-mouth platitutes about their awful middle class upbringing. Oh of the pain of it all! I have everything I ever wanted but my life is a dark colour of black and greys! Oh the ennui, the ennui.
Anyway, now I'm older and I have changed my opinion on poetry. It's okay, still won't read it. But I can dig it, yo.
The point of all this? None. The film was okay, at least now I can say I've read/heard Howl. Maybe I'll read it, maybe not. At least it wasn't a boring trial movie with overwrought emoting.
