Review of Howl (2010) by Nick G — 26 Feb 2011
This film is divided up between a graphic interpretation of the poem, Ginsberg recounting his life, Ginsberg's debut performance of the poem, and the obscenity trial concerning the poem (which, apparently, Ginsberg was not a part of).
Had the film actually focused on any of these things it would have been really interesting, but as it stands it barely stuck with any of them long enough to make the viewer give a shit. Jon Hamm's character in the courtroom part was pretty interesting, but every other character in those segments was incredibly one-dimensional.
The quality of the rest of the film is directly proportionate to how high one is.
