Review of How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) by Valerie M — 08 Aug 2009
Loved the three female leads (especially Bacall) and it was great seeing William Powell, but I didn't like this. They set up the romance between Bacall and Mitchell as the main plotline and wait to develop it at the last possible minute.
We don't get a sense that Schatze really cares for Brookman, we don't see why she eventually throws over J.D. or even that she's having moral qualms, we don't see why any of the characters like each other, just that they do like each other because the plot requires it, andthe whole thing seemed kind of haphazardly put together.
The $1000 bill at the end was kind of cute but mostly stupid. The performances were good but the screenplay was just awful.
