Review of How to Be Single (2016) by Greg B — 13 Feb 2016
"How to be single" is a manifesto about the single life for four 20-somethings in New York City and how they live what they claim to be the glamorous life while secretly pining for a man. Rebel Wilson plays the same role she plays in every role, as the fat shaming, comic relief, and she was true to form in this one.
As a film, this movie feels scattered. The vignette concept doesn't really work, and there are too many disparate storylines operating within the framework of one narrative. We really have no reason to care about these characters; they are statically developed.
They continue to make the same mistakes over and over, and when the viewer wants them to evolve and learn from their mistakes, they never do. This film is like a 90-minute infomercial for Sex and the City ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C+.
