Review of How Green Was My Valley (1941) by Ben W — 26 Feb 2008
John ford apparently found it difficult to make a mediocre film much less a bad one. this is an expertly told story. the music perfectly woven into the film along with great performances. the best thing about this film though is that theres no such thing as sugar coating.
not even for an old film like this. maureen ohara does not get what she wants. death, change, and the inevitability of both are all bigger characters than any of the faces you see on screen. it touches on so many things and in the end puts it all so delicately on film for us that we cant help but marvel at its beauty.
