Review of How Green Was My Valley (1941) by Steven R — 24 Nov 2009
Supposedly the Academy Awards most embracing blunder occurred in 1941 when this movie defeated what is now commonly referred to as the greatest film of all-time (Citizen Kane) in the Best Picture category.
This film discusses modernity and its effects upon values, education and community. For a â??40s film it is progressively bold in its discussion of â??Socialism,â?? and its portrayal of religion as both a tool of passivity and empowerment.
Now Iâ??m still not sure if the academy selected the right film in 1941, but this movieâ??s greatness has been wrongfully subdued by those who are certain they didnâ??t.
