Review of How Green Was My Valley (1941) by Art S — 03 Aug 2011
This film is almost kind of sad, because in a way, this film will forever be remembered as "that film that beat Citizen Kane for Best Picture." While I agree that Citizen Kane is a much superior film, I don't think How Green Was My Valley deserves to be shunned the way that it has. The film is very well crafted and it's also surprisingly entertaining to watch. I also thought that the backgrounds and scenery of the film were just gorgeous. You also have to give credit to Roddy McDowall, he was a really good actor here and he made his character come to life. The movie is just about a life, and to me that was very interesting. We just follow the life of Welsh mining family and to me that was intriguing and kept my interest. Sure some scenes don't flow very well and drags a little, but still, if you love dramas then this one is well worth your time.
8.2/10.
