Review of How Green Was My Valley (1941) by Nicholas L — 04 Apr 2010
John Ford, as usual, brings us an amazingly well done technical film as well as a film that captures life beautifully and perfectly for what it is. Great performances by Donald Crisp, Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara and especially a very young Roddy McDowell help the characters and story to come alive.
Breathtaking in scope and story it is one of the greatest films Ford made. Highly worthy of a best picture and whether it should have beaten Citizen Kane or not it deserved the award by its own right.
