(1941) How Green Is My Valley.
DRAMA.
Director John Ford who was most notable for making Western films with John Wayne I have to say was quite a switch as soon as I saw Ford's name attached to this film. And in my opinion, the best non-Western Ford had ever done because of it's depictions of reality when working at a coal mine is one of the most realistic even though the story is fiction which originally came from a novel of the same name! The narrator who is young boy, speaking of his experiences while growing up on a poor mining town was always a fascinating concept to me, because it's a relatable experience. This is also a recollection of how a boy's father is able to hold his family together during hard times when the town's dependance is it's coal! Films that're similar to this that are also well made is "October Sky" and "The Corn is Green" released in 1945 starring Bette Davis!
