Review of House on Haunted Hill (1999) by Sean C — 29 Apr 2008
Of course I'm going to say that I liked the original movie much more because it had Vincent Price and just seemed to be more fun to watch. This one tries to be more serious and ends up seeming tedious by the end.
This was early on in the slew of shitty remakes that would come out of Hollywood at that time and since. I tried to watch it as a movie on its own and I must say that I did like the opening sequences.
Nice to see Jeffrey Coombs as the doctor, but the story started to get boring. One of the worst things was the use of music. Songs placed by some current band will date the movie to no end and just make it seem tacky.
More tacky than the original and that was made in 1959. I think this movie looks more fake that William Castle just wheeling a skeleton on wheels across the floor.
