Review of House on Haunted Hill (1999) by Jeannie S — 06 Jun 2008
Surprisingly decent update of the old Vincent Price horror flick. Five party guests are offered $1m if they stay the night at an old asylum, deserted since the inmates rose up against the staff in the 1930s.
Is it haunted, or is Steven Price (Geoffrey Rush), the wealthy theme park owner and party host, putting it all on? Some good chills (with tongue slightly in cheek) later give way to some silly SFX, but for the most part this is an enjoyable ghost train ride of a movie.
