Review of House of Wax (2005) by Billy B — 07 Dec 2009

Chilling. This is film is great at drawing you in, keeping you entertained, and making sure you cringe. The film was fun for about half an hour, before the characters started dropping one-by-one in chilling, action packed sequences. The score of the film really helped in setting the mood, and it was really creepy listening to it. The opening scene was powerful because I was pretty shocked to see a little boy strapped to a chair, then slapped by his mother. The whole town was amazingly visually, and it made it that more scary knowing that there was not a living person there that could help the poor characters. The ending wasn't expected, but it had a somewhat open-ending that left room for a sequel, which I wouldn't think would be possible. The mood was errie, and the HOUSE OF WAX was excitingly spooky.

The plot is very intriguing. The fact that the killers turn their victims into wax figures, and display them in the town is so scary, and everytime a wax figure came accross the screen you knew they were a real person underneath, and wondered how they were killed. The film is a very loose remake of 50's remake of the same name.

The acting was great part of the films. "Elisha Cuthbert" and "Chad Michael Murray" were the two stars of the film, "Cuthbert" was effortless at being horrified, but also giving a great emotional performence. "Chad Michael Murray" played the strong brother, and was equally effective. "Paris Hilton" was actually pretty watchable, playing the blond bimbo. Many probably only saw this film to see her meet her demise, in which she was actually excelled in her scenes of being chased and horrified. "Brian Van Holt" was also a star, playing both the killers (who are twins). He excelled being an angry asshole, and right from the beginniong something wasn't right about him.

Overall "House Of Wax" is an amazingly chilling film, with cringingly terrifying scenes. My rating is 5/5. The acting is amazing, the score is amazing, the whole film fits perfectly together, and it is still amazing watching it over and over.
