Review of House of Wax (2005) by Matthew M — 08 Jan 2012
Regardless of most reviews, I do not believe this film to be that bad - sure, as most teenage slasher films are, it's monotonous, tedious and unoriginal, and, to make things worse, has Paris Hilton in it, but the gore, shocks and eerie atmosphere more than make up for these set-backs.
The acting is pretty awful all the way through, and the plot is about as uneven as I've ever seen in any movie, yet the director manages to keep the action fresh and entertaining. The villians are genuinely creepy, and Hilton getting her face impaled means that it should probably be seen by everyone.
The make-up effects are standard for the most part, but some shots are really well-done.
