Review of House of Wax (1953) by Al M — 04 Aug 2010
This remake of the 1930s classic Mystery at the Wax Museum updates the classic in a fun way by introducing Vincent Price as the museum owner/wax artist who loses his creations and is horribly disfigured in a fire.
He recreates his wax museum by using other artists as his hands, but soon bodies begin to disappear and people begin to die mysteriosly. House of Wax ups the creepiness factor by incorporating more actual murders, a more terrifying body thief, and of course Vincent Price.
Price is magnificently creepy and pitiful in his role, and the film succeeds as a tragic piece of thriller cinema.
