Review of House of Wax (1953) by Andy A — 07 Jan 2012
A classic horror B-movie, House of Wax is a great way to spend a dark night. Even though its horror has been dated and the film's cons sometimes get in the way of the fun, Andre de Toth directs great, throwing in lots of 3-D gimmicks, (could get annoying) as well as colorfully showing off the sets while letting there be lots of suspense in the first half.
The film belongs to Vincent Price and his excellent performance as an insane sculptor who models his wax figures out of the dead bodies of people he has killed. Price is incredibly scary and would start his horror film legacy which would carry on for the next 15 years.
