Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by Alex C — 03 Jan 2010
One of the more poweful films to come out of 2003. It's a deeply moving film about when the American dream goes to terribly wrong. Ben Kingsley gives one his best performances in recent years with his role as a man who was high-ranking, wealthy man in Iran but moves he and his family to America to start a new life.
The buy house however, the houses previously owner, Jennifer Connelly, will do anything to get it back. She's currently dealing with a death in her family and battling alcoholism. This is a tough movie, and it's hard watch all the characters wind up in such a horrible.
They're all good people, but they are all very flawed and sometimes end up doing cruel or inexplicable things. And the final third of the film is simply emotionally jarring.
