Review of House of Games (1987) by Seth M — 26 Jun 2008
David Mamet's feature debut as a director is a tight, engrossing, and surprising thriller. Mamet shows he knows how to use the camera, how to pace a film, and how to deliver one hell of a story. His talent for intricate-twisty plotting, cryptic-stylized dialogue, and his flinty cast give this exploration of the con game a deliciously seedy texture.
A terrific, vivid directing debut.
