Review of House of Dark Shadows (1970) by Allan C — 03 Nov 2012
The legend is always more romantic than the truth.
Barnabas Collins is an old vampire that has returned to his family home after a long hiatus. He finds that several family members, who are excited to meet him, still reside in the residence. He immediately starts killing off the locals and shortly after turning a young lady into a vampire (and follower) he meets a doctor who believes she can cure him and a woman that resembles his long lost love. Can Barnabas be cured and live a normal life?
"No human could have made those punctures.".
Dan Curtis, director of Intruders, The Kansas City Massacre, Trilogy of Terror, Night of Dark Shadows, and The Night Strangler, delivers House of the Dark Shadows. The storyline for this picture is entertaining and a bit unpredictable. The characters are very well delivered and the cast includes Jonathan Frid, Grayson Hall, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Roger Davis, Nancy Barrett, and Dennis Patrick.
"It's as if the portrait had come to life.".
House of Shadows aired Halloween day on Turner Classic Movies so I decided to DVR it. I found this film very interesting and surprisingly entertaining (based on the lukewarm reviews on RT). The characters were very interesting and the death scenes were good. I do recommend seeing this picture.
"I can cure you.".
Grade: B.
