Review of House of 1000 Corpses (2003) by Josh H — 31 May 2011
Before you watch this movie know this: it's a music video. It's shot like a music video, it's got the flashy editing of a music video, and it has the overall logic of a music video. Seriously, this film makes little sense.
Even though we don't care a bit about the characters, the complete and utter sadism the villains display manages to keep it a bit scary, and Bill Moseley was awesome in his small role as Captain Spaulding (kudos to Rob Zombie for the Groucho Marx references).
It's not nearly as gory as some people have made it out to be, but the sick and nasty nature of the film makes all the situations seem worse then what they actually show. In the end, while I didn't enjoy it a whole lot when I was watching it, I have a strong and unusual desire to re-watch it, and I very much look forward to watching the sequel.
