Review of House II: The Second Story (1987) by Justin A — 04 Oct 2014
Okay, I'm just going to be honest, I have no idea what was going on in this movie. That should about sum it up. It wasn't confusing because of some convoluted or complicated plot, but rather it was so all over the place that I had no idea what the movie was trying to accomplish.
One minute it's kind of a horror comedy. Then it becomes just straight up comedy and they're in the land of the lost for some reason fighting cavemen and dinosaurs. Then there's a caterpillar dog.
Then ancient Egyptians. Then it becomes a western and I was wondering if it was trying to capitalize on the success of City Slickers, but that wouldn't make sense since this predates that movie by like 4 years.
This is apparently what I go through when I watch movies like this. Utter confusion where I'm just trying to figure out what the point of making the movie was, who the target audience was, what part of this movie that audience would enjoy, and who green lit the screenplay.
At the very least, I can say it seemed like the cast gave it their best shot and had some fun with the material. Their effort should be commended, but this thing was a mess before it was even shot.
