Review of House at the End of the Street (2012) by Mike C — 13 Feb 2013
Should have known something was amiss as soon as the house in question turned out to be in the woods and not really at the end of a street per se. If they're going to be that lazy about the title...
I actually didn't hate the movie. J-Law cannot lower herself to act in too many of these guilty pleasure flicks, but the occasional is okay. The final twist, if I understood it correctly, is almost worth taking a full point away. But the first twist I liked. Obviously, not my style to spoil it, but I did not see it coming but thought it decent as soon as I realized what was going on (before it is fully revealed on screen). They just took it a step further and lost credibility.
So, Lawrence has some gravitas even in a teeny-bop movie like this. The sheriff is dumb as can be, as per usual, and there is not much here but a little thrill. But I think it's okay to step back from serious drama now and then and enjoy a tiny scare.
