If one considers Ingmar Bergman's "Hour of the Wolf" to be a horror film, which it is with its gothic mood, then it's the best; if one were to compare "Hour of the Wolf" to Mr.
Bergman's filmography, "Hour of the Wolf" isn't near his best. Nevertheless, "Hour of the Wolf" is a classic and a curious film from the master of, well, film. Nykvist, Sydow, Ullman, a third act that, on first viewing, surprises, mesmerizes, and always melts the face.
Ingmar Bergman's dark tale is psychological horror's Pantheon and has been for over forty years.
