Review of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018) by Lou O — 13 Oct 2018
One big problem I have with this movie is Johnny. Not because I hate him but because he's barely in the film and doesn't seem to be able to take things seriously. Granted, he was like that in the last two movies.
This one just took it a step too far. And Vlad is completely pointless here since he's just a background character who's there to terrify the audience with the visual of him in a Speedo. However, I would be lying if I said I didn't like Hotel Transylvania 3.
The animation has quite a cartoony, energized feel to it allowing for tons of hilarious instances of visual humour...even in scenes where it virtually has no business being there. The voice acting is pretty good and the script is better written, if only because Genndy Tartakovsky wrote it this time around.
Truth be told, though, I'd have preferred it if the captain being Van Helsing's great-granddaughter was a twist but, even if you don't see the trailer, it's revealed early on. At least it allows for more energetic CGI gags.
If you liked the first two Hotel Transylvania movies, chances are you'll enjoy this one too.
