Review of Hotel Rwanda (2004) by Mikhel A — 06 Dec 2010
Very powerful and informative, a must see.
The fact that Genocide can still take place in this day and age in such a similar form as when it took place 100 years ago is maddening. This movie reveals sobering facts that the majority of the world was blind to, or simply ignored, in Rwanda in 1994. Everyone should see this movie to get the story straight. Don Cheadle was marvelous as the hero who tries to save his family and an entire community of victims from Genocide. My only problem with the movie was that it seemed to sugarcoat many details and not show the real pain and suffering, but I guess if you're shooting for a pg-13 rating, not much can be done. (warning, semi-spolier follows...) I thought the ending they chose was very Americanized, with the storybook happy reunion of the family, when in reality, most victims of genocide are not so "lucky". I thought it should have ended with a more realistic somber note, but overall a great movie.
