Review of Hotel Rwanda (2004) by Jeff B — 05 Feb 2011
While it was brutal to see a man basically begging for his life and the lives of others throughout the whole film, I couldn't help but think it came off kind of amateurish in certain ways. It was much more of a piece of propaganda than a film about what happened in Rwanda and it didn't really delve into a lot of the more disturbing and horrific events of the genocide since it stayed localized in the hotel the whole time and didn't really venture out of it.
It was much more about Don Cheadle's character standing up to what was happening that the horror of what happened... a very-lite version of "Schindler's List." It was still good, but I guess I was expecting a bit more out of it.
