Review of Hotel Rwanda (2004) by Stephen E — 26 Oct 2012
It's nice nowadays to see a drama presented in a non-"shaky cam" format. Filmmakers need to realize that serious subject matter doesn't need to be intensified by frantic, incomprehensible camerawork in order to be perceived as realistic.
"Hotel Rwanda" is executed in a straightforward manner by director Terry George and it works much better than other gritty works due to its clear and distinguished cinematography. All of this aside, "Hotel Rwanda" is a powerful drama that captures the atrocities inflicted upon the Tutsi people of Rwanda and how the rest of the world ignored it.
The performances from Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo are especially honest and I also enjoyed the appearances of Nick Nolte, Joaquin Phoenix and David O'Hara.
