A look at a relationship on its way out, beautifully framed by Anderson's detailed eye. The two lovers don't have much to say to each other anymore but their previously established familiarity can be detected by their candid exchange and the easygoing way they hold each other.
They both acknowledge that their relationship was mutually damaging, but choose this one last rendezvous in each other's arms as the final goodbye. Schwartzman is still the endearingly awkward figure he cut in "Marie Antoinette," and Portman is ever the brunette bombshell.
