Review of Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) by Markus S — 22 Mar 2012
Comedies are usually a hit or miss for me as I find it really hard to find one that appeals to me. While the movie itself is flawed with it humor, it has enough to redeem it from being another bad comedy.
Hot Tub Time Machine is about three friends on losing streaks Adam, Nick, and Lou. To help Lou recover from car-exhaust poisoning, Adam and Nick, with Adam's nephew Jacob, go to a winter resort that was their old party place and the hot tub takes them back to 1986. The humor is mostly off, while I did get a couple of laughs most of the humor is a miss. I did enjoy the ridiculous premise of movie, even though the writers could have done more with it and taken it in a more interesting direction. Now the characters themselves are somewhat interesting and unfortunately this one of those predictable comedy where you could see the ending coming before it even ends. Overall the story of the movie has it flaws, but it's entertaining for the most part.
The cast itself is very likable and delivers good laughs despite the so-so material they have to work with. The cast itself knows how to do comedy, but unfortunately the movie itself was a little too lighthearted for me. Which is why in some of the more serious scenes it comes out completely forgettable and out of place. The cast is wisely ensemble, unfortunately they didn't have good material to work to show there real talents.
Hot Tub Time Machine is a comedy that suffers from it lack of humor and is redeem mostly by it cast. While it may not be your kind of comedy, it provides some laughs and fun.
