Review of Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (2015) by Brett H — 08 Apr 2015
A nearly laugh-free follow-up to the quotable awesomeness the first film had to offer that no one asked for nor want to remember once it's over. The lack of John Cusack is instantly noticeable as his character added a lot more personality to the group, and while they still have great chemistry, Adam Scott is no replacement.
The story is incredibly forced and not what was promised in the trailers with the group mainly staying in the future and the gags they try almost unanimously don't work. The writing is flat-out dumb and there are numerous scenes of the characters spit-balling, "You know what you look like" jokes that gets old, QUICK.
The heart and nostalgia just wasn't there for this film and they push the crudeness to pathetic lengths; I really didn't laugh much. There is a great, quick cameo in the unrated version at the end that I didn't see coming, and there are maybe one or two funny moments, but all-in-all I was incredibly disappointed with this "comedy" and all the talent was wasted.
