Review of Hot Tub Time Machine 2 (2015) by Jacob — 20 Feb 2015

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is one of the circles of h*ll just really painful to be in, unpleasant, and you want nothing more to get out. You’ll be asking yourself why are you here and what I did I do to deserve this.

The sad part about this film is that some of the satire humor works and the cast is enjoyable to watch but all that is buried under all the stuff that doesn’t work. The story of the film lacks any heart and interesting ideas using time travel just for a ton of references to movies that are way better than this one; penis jokes along with other types of gross out humor; and scenes that revolting to watch.

While sequels tend to suck the idea of going into the future could lead to some good satire but rather than explore that they just get lazy and do a bunch of laughs. I could criticize this film for ripping off Back to the Future Part II but those are too different genres and several gags in this film do work and had the film been smarter about its humor and hadn’t hit the lazy button it could’ve been entertaining.

Instead this film does all the lazy tropes you’d expect of a terrible sequel. I would recommend avoiding this film at all costs. If you need to see this film either watch it illegally online or just wait for it to come out on DVD.

You’ll hate it a lot less if you are watching it of your own free will and weren’t forced to see it in theaters like I was. If I had a hot tub I’d go back in time and make sure I never went and saw this movie or prevented it from being made.
