Review of Hot Girls Wanted (2015) by Brian S — 24 Aug 2016
In this stimulating glimpse in a pocket of the amateur porn industry and the young (impressionable) girls that are enticed to join, directors Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus 2015 documentary Hot Girls Wanted show us the real people behind the pixels and the toll it has on them during their stay.
Produced by Rashida Jones, the film has a very smooth aesthetic and the filmmaker's really get a lot of bang out of their buck with energetic music, good cinematography and great editing, ensuring that the experience is good on the ears and visually pleasing.
Luckily, the subject matter is interesting as the story revolves around very taboo concepts but it is refreshing to learn the motives behind these people and the repercussions it has on their daily life.
With any documentary it is difficult for filmmakers not to instill some form of agenda on things and it is nice that Bauer and Gradus keep it relatively open to interpretation. Coming in under 90-minutes, Hot Girls Wanted is an insightful and quick immersion in a world that is usually only seen from one perspective, making it a worthy watch.
